Meanest Story nominee and You So Crazy Alert™:Chelsea's secret collapse

Publication: National Enquirer
Date: 16 August 2010

A quick explanation of the supermarket rag business. There are ten supermarket rags, five of which are owned by America Media Inc (AMI). The AMI papers are the Three Wicked Step Sisters (Enquirer, Globe, Examiner), the completely fictitious Sun and the somewhat independent Star. All five of the non-AMI papers had pictures from Chelsea's wedding last weekend, even In Touch, which is generally a meaner magazine than the Star.

In what looks like an act of spite, The Flagship runs a story that Chelsea collapsed during the preparations for her special day, a repeat of the story from last week when they said she had a meltdown.

This is not the only editorial decision for the Enquirer this week that looks to be based on spite, and to my mind, not even the worst.
